Governance & SOPs: Meeting GPhC Principle 1
Master Principle 1 of the GPhC Standards for Registered Pharmacies. Understand all eight governance sub-standards, write SOPs that inspectors trust, and build governance systems that run every day — not just on inspection day.
Principle 1 — governance — is the foundation everything else rests on. When an inspector finds governance weak, the consequences ripple outward: staffing concerns become harder to defend, SOP failures compound, and even an otherwise safe dispensary can generate a "standards not all met" outcome. Yet governance is also the area pharmacy teams are most likely to underestimate, because on a busy Tuesday it can feel abstract.
This course makes governance concrete. It unpacks all eight sub-standards of Principle 1, explains what each one requires in plain language, shows how SOPs should be designed and maintained (not just filed), and walks through realistic inspection scenarios — drawn from GPhC inspection report patterns — so you can judge your own pharmacy honestly before an inspector does.

- How to design, write and maintain SOPs that inspectors trust — not shelf-ware
- How to structure governance documents: risk register, SOP register, complaints log, governance meeting minutes
- How responsibility is distributed between owner, superintendent, RP and governance lead
- How to embed continuous improvement into routine pharmacy life using near-miss data and audits
